I had always thought that there were two words that were uniquely Guyanese. Well, one word and one concept. The word was "skunt" and the concept was "eye-pass."

Imagine my utter devastation, therefore, when - on a visit to the tranquil Virgin Islands - I found a whole parallel nation using our word and claiming it to be theirs. To me, that was a lot of skunt, and nothing short of eye-pass.

So now we are left with eye-pass.

Eye-pass is the quintessentially Guyanese term which basically means disrespect. There are of course no written rules governing its usage. However, the methodology of usage usually signifies the level of disrespect perceived by the user. In the following examples, the bold lettering indicates the point of emphasis in the statement:

This is eye-pass	Routine disrespect. Usually non-threatening.
Yuh eyes pass me	An adult chastising a moderately disrespectful child.
Yuh tekkin' yuh eyes and pass me	An adult chastizing a very disrespectful child.
This eye-pass gat to done NOW!!	Bloodshed a distinct possibility in the near future
